Start vjing with grandVJ

Even if we ignore endless possibilities to express creativity and that inevitably cool factor, we cannot dispute VJing as a pure art form of the 21st century. VJ and live visual scenes are constantly evolving and influencing each other. VJs are as important to the scene as visual artists, the same way as DJs and musicians. Place of VJ performance is to be in front of the stage, their masterpiece, mixing visuals showing on the large screen behind a DJ or performer, to the beat of the music. You express your emotions not only through the screen but also with your own performance and attitude, and the audience feels that. As DJ mixes the audio, VJ mixes visuals and deeply connected with the music. In the end, the important is to create a unique visual experience for the audience.

Those who read this blog frequently will probably remember Charlie Mars, the French VJ with the colorful hood.. It’s the third time we’re writing about this guy already! We first spotted a great home demo on Vimeo that he did after using GrandVJ since just one day, then the week after he was already taking GrandVJ live on stage for the ZôL concert at Metamorphoses, a French Electronic music festival.

Here is a video showing MediaMaster 2.0 in Express version, it’s the developer’s beta that was demonstrated at the Prolight+Sound in Frankfurt last month but it will give you a good idea of what it will look like. We were triggering video loops with an LSC DMX desk and with a small Korg Nano MIDI controller.

Back in March we featured a show report on the ArKaos web site about the installation made by lighting designer Sebastien Jurkowski at the Zouk Club in Kuala Lumpur. This impressive setup in a not less impressive venue was the very first time our brand new media server software ArKaos MediaMaster was used in a Club installation and it proved to be a very good and reliable solution since it is now the subject of a 3 pages article and interview in mondo*dr magazine, the international publication for technology in entertainment. Here is a short video clip from the installation in the main room at Zouk Club, read further below for some interesting parts of the article.

ANTIVJ is a “visual label” which specializes in visual experiments, outdoor installations, architecture design, and most notably projection mapping. As a part of their creation process they make a very advanced use of ArKaos software’s blend and mask modes to map visuals on onto architecture or objects. They have once again caught our attention with one of their latest installations, a stunning visual show in Breda’s cathedral. It’s a beautiful mix of painting projection, light sculpture, perfect mapping and great music made by a team of very experienced professionals.. But enough words, have a look at the video; it’s really worth watching to the end!
